Three: Private J. Maslen, Grenadier Guards

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 1 clasp, Tel-El-Kebir (4528 Pte. J. Maslin, 2/ Gr[en.] Gds.), note different spelling of surname; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small reverse letters (4528 Pte., Gren. Gds.); Khedive’s Star 1882 (4528 J. Maslen) first heavily pitted, both first and third with edge bruising, fine, second good very fine (3) £140-180

Jesse Maslen was born in the town of Pevsey, Wiltshire. A member of the Royal Wiltshire Militia, he enlisted into the Regular Army in 1873. Serving initially with the 62nd Foot, he was transferred to the Grenadier Guards in the same year. He served with them in Egypt and was discharged in 1891. He married Caroline Penifer at Upton-upon-Chalrey, Slough in 1878 and had 2 sons and three daughters. Both sons, Jesse Alexander and Charles entered the Grenadier Guards. Jesse Alexander Maslen/ Maslin’s medals were sold in D.N.W. auction 27.6.2002, lot 1365.
