William Theodore Friend was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. With the 9th South African Horse he entered German S.W. Africa in about January 1915 and German East Africa in about May 1916. He was discharged in March 1917 as being temporarily unfit for war service. Medals to William Theodore Friend sold with copied service papers.
