Four: Corporal A. Weir, 79th Highlanders

Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Sebastopol (2892 Alexander Weir, 79 Cameron Highlanders), depot impressed naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (2892 Alexr. Weir, 79th Highlanders), additionally impressed with regimental number; Army L.S.& G.C., V.R . (2892 Corpl., 79th Foot); Turkish Crimea, Sardinian issue, unnamed, straight bar suspension, suspension slack on third, edge bruising, contact marks, fine and better (4) £300-350

Alexander Weir was born in Paisley, Renfrew and attested for the 71st Regiment at Glasgow on 6.5.1842, aged 17 years. He joined his regiment in Canada but in Quebec, 1848, he transferred to the 79th Highlanders. He served with the 79th in the Crimea and in India, being promoted Corporal in 1860. He was discharged in 1864. Sold with copied service papers.
