Crimean War Interest, a very fine and rare Russian infantryman’s cow-horn powder flask complete with decorated brass filling cap this complete with turned wooden screw peg, the plain brass and iron sprung priming finial in good working order, both integral carrying rings present, the horn engraved ‘C.Martin/Crimea 1854’, another engraving on the brass filling cap reads, ‘15th July LD 1915’, the priming finial with one small perished area otherwise in very good overall condition £250-350

The engraving ‘C.Martin/Crimea 1854’ most probably relates to Lieutenant Charles Nassau Martin, Corps of Royal Engineers (2nd Lieut 18/6/1851, 1st Lieut 17/2/1854, Captain 4/1/1859). He served at the siege of Sevastopol from September 1854 to February 1855, he was severely wounded in October 1854. Medal and Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honour and 5th Class of the Medjidie.
