Deva Bickram Rana was commissioned into the Royal Nepalese Army as a captain in 1943. Serving with the Ganesh Dal Regiment he saw extensive service with them in the Assam-Burma Campaign during the Second World War. With the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, he was appointed A.D.C. to the Commander-in-Chief and accompanied him on his tour of Singapore and Malaya in 1957 and India in 1958. With the local rank of Colonel he served for some time during 1959-60 on attachment to a British Gurkha unit in Malaya. Promoted to Colonel in 1962 he commanded the Home Guard Brigade. He attained the rank of Major-General in1970 and retired from the service in 1976. He died in 1989.
