Lieutenant-Colonel Sydney Crohan Millett was commissioned into the 23rd Foot as Ensign in 1854 and promoted Lieutenant later the same year and Captain a year later. Serving in the Crimean War, he was severely wounded during the second assault upon the Redan. For his services he was awarded the Turkish Order of Medjidie and Sardinian Al Valore Militare. A Major by purchase in 1869, he served in the Ashantee War of 1873-74 with his regiment and recieved the brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1874. He died in Gibraltar in 1879.
