The mounted group of ten miniature dress medals attributed to Brigadier-General D. R. Sladen, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, Order of St. Michael and St. George, gold and enamel; Distinguished Service Order, V.R., gold and enamel, complete with top bar; Egypt, undated reverse, 1 clasp. Gemaizah 1888; India General Service, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-8, Tirah 1897-8; Queen’s South Africa, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Johannesburg; King’s South Africa, 2 clasps; 1914-15 Star; British War and Victory Medals; Khedive’s Star 1884, mounted as worn, very fine £180-220

Brigadier-General Sladen was born in 1869 and gazetted into the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in 1888 and took part in the Sudan Campaign of 1888-9. Promoted Captain in 1897 he served in the Tirah Expedition where he was slightly wounded, twice mentioned in despatches and created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (London Gazette 20.5.1898) . Serving in the Boer War he was mentioned in despatches. Promoted Lieutenant-Colonel in 1914, he served in the Great War, being wounded, twice mentioned in despatches and was awarded the C.M.G. in 1915.
