Major-General Roger Charles Cottrell-Hill was born in 1903 and educated at Bedford School and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Border Regiment in 1924. As a Captain he was awarded the M.C. in 1938 for gallant conduct in an engagement at El Yamun, near Jenin in Palestine. He was Brigade Major in 1940 and Brigade Commander in 1944. He was awarded the D.S.O. for Arakan in 1944 and the Bar for the assault landing on Ramree Island in 1945. After the War, he was Chief of Staff in Malaya, 1950-53 and General Officer Commanding Berlin (British Sector), 1955-56. Retiring in 1959, he died in 1965. Sold with a quantity of service details.
