Just 2 gold and 75 silver Medals of the Mercantile Marine Service Society were ever issued.

The Norwegian barque
Christina of Fredrikshald, dismasted and waterlogged, was sighted by the Johnson Line steamer Queensmore on the night of 5 February 1894 in the North Atlantic. Although the night was dark, the wind blowing hard from the N.E., snow and sleet falling, and the temperature of the water 30 degrees, Captain Moore called for a volunteer crew, and a boat was speedily manned by Mr. N.H. Harris, 2nd Officer, and five men. Upon getting to the Christina the boat got badly damaged by wreckage, but eventually, after four hours work, the distressed crew were safely transferred to the Queensmore.
