Mabel Laura Georgina Palmer was born on 6.10.1884, the first child and only daughter of William Waldergrave Palmer, 2nd Earl of Selborne, K.G., P.C., G.C.M.G. (1859-1942) and Lady Beatrix Maud Cecil, daughter of the 3rd Marquess of Salisbury. In 1906 Lady Mabel married Charles Robert Grey, Viscount Howick, who succeeded his father as 5th Earl Grey in 1917. Countess Grey held the rank of Commandant of the British Red Cross Society from October 1914 to January 1916 and Commandant of the 1st V.A.D. Hospital, 1914-15. She was awarded the C.B.E. in 1919. The Countess died on 15.7.1958. Sold with research details relating to the family.
