Army L.S.G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (2005 Bandmaster J. McDonald, 79th Foot), mounted as worn, good very fine £60-80

James McDonald was born in 1840 in Glasgow and enlisted into the Army in 1858. Serving with the 2nd battalion 21st Regiment he attained the rank of Sergeant before transferring to the 79th Foot in 1872 as Bandmaster. He was granted the Army L.S.& G.C. Medal in 1879. Promoted Warrant Officer Class I in 1881, he served with the regiment in Egypt from 1883 to 1885 and was the Inspecting Bandmaster with the Egyptian Army. McDonald retired with a pension in 1885 and died in 1902. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
