Military General Service 1793-1814, 2 clasps, Talavera, Albuhera (W. Ford, 48th Foot) abrasion in obverse field, edge nicks and contact wear, about very fine £600-700

William Ford was born at Ratcliffe, near Atherstone and enlisted in the 48th Foot in August 1807, joining Captain G.S. Thwaites’ Company in the same month. Arriving in Portugal with the 2nd Battalion in early 1809, he was present at Talavera and Albuhera, and was wounded in the right shoulder at the latter action in May 1811. Subsequently discharged, he is listed among the intake of invalid soldiers at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea in March 1813.
