Henry Edward Ladds was born at Tempsford, Bedfordshire, on 21 April 1890, and joined the Metropolitan Police on 13 February 1911. He served with the Royal Air Force during the war, from January 1917 until April 1919, after which he rejoined the Police. He was promoted to Sergeant in September 1922, to Station Sergeant in July 1927, and to Inspector in October 1929. He had three commendations on his record sheet and retired on pension on 2 January 1938.
