Arthur Frank Davis was born at Lambeth, South London, on 1 December 1884. He joined the Royal Navy in 1900 and served until April 1909, joining the Metropolitan Police on 8 November of that year. He served in “N” Division until August 1910 when he was transferred to “P” Division. Recalled to the Navy in August 1914, he rejoined the Police in January 1919. Promoted to Sergeant in August 1920, to Station Sergeant in May 1925, and to Inspector in July 1927, this latter promotion was not confirmed and Davis reverted to Station Sergeant in February 1928. In May 1932 he reverted to the rank of Sergeant and finally retired on pension on 12 January 1936. He had two commendations on his record sheet, in 1910 and 1913.
