George Frederick Dolby was born at Cripplegate, City of London, on 23 August 1866. He joined the Royal Horse Artillery on 20 August 1884, and served in India from October 1885 until November 1891. His India General Service medal and clasp is confirmed on a special roll for the Government Telegraph Department, his being the sole entry. The roll records that he was serving with “A” Battery R.H.A., attached to the Chittagong Column from 1 March 1889 to 9 May 1890. His service papers note that he passed a course in Telegraphy in March 1889, confirm both medal and clasp, and show that he was transferred to “P” Battery in November 1890. He returned to England in November 1891 and was placed on the Reserve. He joined the Metropolitan Police on 14 March 1892 and served until pensioned on 22 April 1917. Sold with full research and three other related photographs.
