South Africa 1877-79, no clasp (Captn. J. G. Ballantyne, 1/11th Foot) nearly extremely fine and unique to the regiment

James George Ballantyne served on ‘Special Service’ and proceeded to the Cape with drafts, and served with the Field Force during the later phases of the war. He was the only member of his regiment to see service in South Africa during these campaigns. Ballantyne retired as Major in 1885.
