M.B.E. (Military) London Gazette 27 June 1919: ‘2nd Lieut. Leonard Bertram Maggs, Officer Commanding Comforts Commission (Overseas Depot).’

One of only 97 Military awards of the M.B.E. to South Africans for the Great War. He served as a Gunner with the South African Heavy Artillery in France, October to December 1916 and July to September 1917. He was appointed Temporary 2nd Lieutenant, South African General List, 25 March 1918, Department of Posts and Telegraphs, and in later life became Postmaster at Johannesburg. Sold with comprehensive service records.
