Edward Kenneth John Honess was the son of Regimental Sergeant-Major George Honess, 10th Hussars (See Lot 1310). He enlisted into the 14th Battalion, London Regiment (London Scottish) on 7 August 1915, and joined the battalion in France on 21 January 1916. He was wounded by a gunshot wound in the right hand at Gommecourt on 1 July 1916, the first day of the battle of the Somme, invalided to the U.K. and discharged on medical grounds on 15 August 1917.
