Captain Gerald Filose Broughton was born in 1882, a 2nd Lieutenant on the Unattached List in 1902, transferring to the Indian Army in 1903. He served as Company Officer of the 2nd Gurkhas from November 1904, attached to the Assam Military Police. By 1911 he was Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion, 2nd King Edward’s Own Gurkha Rifles. Promoted Captain in 1911 he was attached to the 17th Infantry in the Abor Campaign. He was killed in action on 11.6.1917 whilst serving with the 17th Infantry in East Africa. He was buried in Iringa Cemetry, Tanzania.
