William Bernard Branston was born in 1877 and was educated at Radley College and Christ Church, Oxford. A Captain in the 5th (Militia) Battalion, Rifle Brigade by the outbreak of hostilities in South Africa, he served in the operations in Cape Colony between January and May 1902. Branston was recalled to his old Battalion in August 1914 and served out in France between 1915-16. Afterwards going into business in London, the Major died there at his residence in South Street, W.1 in his 92nd year in March 1968.
