Pair: Private Charles Monro, 79th Highlanders

Waterloo 1815 (Charles Monro, 1st Batt. 79th Reg. Foot) fitted with contemporary replacement silver clip and straight bar suspension; 79th Foot Order of Merit, silver, 1st Class, for 12 years service, unnamed as issued, fitted with silver bar suspension matching the first, contact marks and edge bruising to the first, better than good fine, the second nearly very fine (2) £1200-1500

Charles Monro was born at Loth, Sutherland, and attested for the 79th Hughlanders at Dornoch, Sutherland, on 21 February 1813 at the age of 16. He served 3 years and 5 months in France and was present at the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo, the remainder at Home. He was promoted to Corporal in January 1830, to Sergeant in April 1836, and was discharged at Edinburgh Castle on 25 June 1837. Sold with copy discharge papers.
