British War and Victory Medals (Lieut., R.A.F.); together with memorial plaque (Edward William Griffin); small enamelled oval portrait of recipient in uniform; and cloth Observers Wing, these all mounted in a contemporary fitted bronzed display frame, the arched top with applied Gloucestershire Regiment cap badge, base with R.A.F. badge, the two corners of the frame inset with ribbons, in both the squadron and R.A.F colours, the back of the frame with Buckingham Palace scroll, surmounted by Gloucester Regiment ‘back badge’; together with a separate glazed frame containing a studio portrait of recipient, extremely fine and a most appealing display (5) £600-700

Edward William Griffin was killed in action on 16 September 1918, when, whilst on a reconnaissance operation his DH4 was intercepted and forced to land, the result of an enemy combat. He is buried in Huby-St Leu British Cemetery, France. The Pilot, Lieutenant C. Brown was unhurt.
