Arthur James Cecil Eyre Phillippo, a native of Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex was killed in action on 7 June 1917, whilst piloting an RE8 on a photographic reconnaissance operation over Hollebeke. His plane was claimed by the German air ace, Ernst Weissner, of Jasta 18, who himself was killed later that day. Lieutenant Phillippo is buried at Menen Communal Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, Belgium. His Observer (Lieutenant F. V. Durkin) survived and was taken prisoner of war.

Previously, on 7 January 1917, Phillippo is recorded as being the pilot of a BE2g, which took off on an artillery observation patrol. He came into contact with a Halberstadt Scout, and in the ensuing combat had his rear petrol tank shot up. His observer, 2nd Lieutenant E. G. W. Bissett died as a result of a head wound received in this action.
