A good Great War M.C. group of three awarded to Captain D. M. Ewart, Canadian Engineers, killed in action on 26 August 1918

Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed as issued; British War and Victory Medals (Capt.); together with Canadian Memorial Cross, G.V.R. (Capt., M.C.); memorial plaque (Douglas Marsden Ewart) nearly extremely fine (5) £500-600

M.C. London Gazette 26 July 1917 ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed great courage and determination in consolidating his position under heavy shell fire. He set a fine example to his men.’

Douglas Marsden Ewart was born at Ottawa, Ontario on 8 February 1890, and enlisted in the Canadian Engineers Training Depot on 13 April 1915. He initially served with the 8th Field Company, before transferring to the 7th Battalion, Canadian Engineers in the rank of Captain, with whom he was killed in action in France on 26 August 1918. He is buried at Faubourg-d’Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France.
