Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 6 clasps, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek (3707 Cpl., Middlesex Regt.); King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps (3707 Serjt., Middlesex Regt.); 1914-15 Star (2. Lieut., R. Berks. R.); British War and Victory Medals (Capt.); Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (3707 C. Sjt., Middx. Regt.); together with memorial plaque (William Joseph Cox); Army Temperance Association Medal, in silver, reverse inscribed ‘Cpl. W. Cox, 2nd Mdsx. Reg. 1900’, the Boer War pair and Long Service with some edge bruising and contact wear, therefore nearly very fine, otherwise extremely fine and a good group to a pre-war regular (8) £450-500

William Joseph Cox was commissioned into the Royal Berkshire Regiment from the Middlesex Regiment on 9 October 1914, with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, promoted Lieutenant, 6 April 1915; and Captain (posthumously), 10 July 1915. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 16 May 1915, whilst serving with the 1st Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment, and is buried in Rue-des-Berceaux Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L’Avouep, Pas de Calais, France.
