Three: Captain (Adjutant) C. L. E. Muntz, Royal Marine Light Infantry, mortally wounded at the Battle of The Ancre, 13 November 1916

Claude Leonard Eyre Muntz was born on 21 August 1880 and educated at King William’s College, Isle of Man. He entered the Royal Naval School, Eltham in 1894; passed Sandhurst examination at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich in 1898; commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, R.M.L.I. in 1899; Lieutenant, 1900; served aboard H.M.S. Niobe escorting Prince and Princess of Wales to Canada in 1909; Wei-Hai-Wai, 1913. During the Great War he served with the 1st R.M. Battalion, R.N.D. in Gallipoli, prior to being posted to the Western Front.

He died of wounds on 17 November 1916, received at the Battle of the Ancre (Beaumont Hamel), four days previously, and is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery, Somme, France.
