Henry Cook was born in Stroud, Gloucestershire and enlisted in the Royal Marines at Bath in January 1836, aged18 years. Advanced to Colour-Sergeant in February 1859, he was discharged in September of the same year and awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal.
