Thomas Longhurst was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in January 1848.

He was born at East Wickham, Kent and joined the Royal Navy as a Landsman aboard H.M.S.
Leda in July 1815. Advanced to Able Seaman in August 1826, he served aboard the Royal Yacht William and Mary between 1828-31, and was appointed Coxswain of the Launch in May 1837, while serving aboard the Temeraire. He was finally discharged ashore from the Trafalgar in January 1848.
