Netherlands, The Medal for Dogger Bank (Medaille van Doggersbank) 1781, oval silver medal, obverse, a winged figure of Victory, facing right and extending a laurel-wreath, standing on the prow of a war galley with the inscription ‘doggers bank’, the lower right further inscribed ‘vavg. mdcc lxxxi’, and the left and upper field with ‘pax qvaeritvr bello’ around, reverse, the central legend ‘exi miae virtu tis praem ivm’ within a wreath and ‘mvnificentia principis avriaci’ around, 36mm. by 29mm., with integral loop for suspension, good very fine and rare £1000-1200

This attractive medal was awarded by Stadholder William V, Prince of Orange, to the Naval Officers and Petty Officers who participated in the action at Dogger Bank on 5 August 1781, when Admiral Zoutman got the better of 19 warships under Admiral Sir Hyde Parker.
