The contemporary group of four miniatures worn by Sergeant F. J. Sears, D.C.M. & Bar, Royal Marine Artillery, comprising Distinguished Conduct Medal, V.R., with Second Award Bar, dated ‘November 21st-24th 1899’; Sudan 1896; Meritorious Service Medal, V.R., obverse bust as for E. & W. Africa, with straight bar suspension; Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, 4 clasps, Khartoum, Sudan 1897, Sudan 1899, Gedid, rather crudely stitched on cloth strip, the D.C.M. now detached, generally very fine (4) £100-150

Sergeant F. J. Sears, R.M.A., won the D.C.M. for the battle of the Atbara, 8 April 1898, and was awarded a Bar for the final pursuit and defeat of the Khalifa in November 1899. His full sized group of medals is on display at the Royal Marines Museum, Eastney. See Lot 1430 for his son’s Great War Medals.
