Army L.S.G.C., W.IV.R. (J. Sharpe, Serjt. Major 7th Regiment Foot. 1834) with original steel clip and ring suspension, nearly extremely fine £400-450

Jeremiah Sharpe was born at Birr, Kings County, and attested for the 7th Foot at Aughmacloy on 4 January 1808, aged 29 and a weaver by trade. He was promoted to Corporal in May 1809, to Sergeant in January 1810, to Color-Sergeant in September 1814, and to Regimental Sergeant-Major on 26 April 1827. He served two years and a half in Portugal, two years in France with the Army of Occupation, four years in the Mediterranean, and was present at the battles of Talavera, Busaco and Albuhera. Sergeant-Major Sharpe was discharged ‘old and worn out’ at Naas on 19 May 1834. Sold with copy discharge papers.
