East and West Africa 1887-1900, 1 clasp, Witu 1890 (W. H. Pallett, Engr., R.N., H.M.S. Conquest), nearly extremely fine £180-220

Chief Engineer William Henry Pallett, entered the Royal Navy as an Engineer Student in 1879 and was commissioned as Assistant Engineer in 1885 and promoted to Engineer in 1889. As such, he served aboard H.M.S. Conquest and was present with the Naval Brigade during the expedition against the Sultan of Witu in 1890. Pallett was in charge of the water supply of the shore party and for his services was mentioned in Admiral Freemantle’s despatches. He attained the rank of Chief Engineer in 1900 but died, and was buried with full military honours, in 1901.
