Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Defence of Lucknow, Lucknow (Capt. & Bt. Major J. H. Wade, 90th Lt. Inf.) suspension and clasps neatly re-fixed, some contact marks and pitting, otherwise very fine £600-800

James Herne Wade was appointed Ensign in the 90th Light Infantry on 2 February 1849, becoming Lieutenant in February 1854, and Captain in February 1855. He served with the 90th Light Infantry at the siege and fall of Sebastopol from 4th December 1854 and was with the storming party at the assault of the Redan on 8th September, at which he was severely wounded (mentioned in despatches, medal with clasp, Sardinian and Turkish medals, and 5th class of the Medjidie).

During the Indian mutiny of 1857-58 he was present with Havelock’s column at the actions of the 21st and 23rd September, the relief and subsequent defence of Lucknow (mentioned in despatches), with Outram’s force at the Alumbagh, including the repulse of numerous attacks on that position from November 1857 to March 1858, the siege and fall of Lucknow, and the final operations in Oude (brevet of Major, medal and clasps, and a year’s service for Lucknow. Major Wade subsequently transferred to the 53rd Foot.
