Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Surgeon E. B. Thring, 31st Regt. N.I.) lightly polished, otherwise toned, good very fine £200-250

Edward Brouncker Thring was born on 22 March 1819. He qualified L.S.A. in 1840, M.R.C.S. in 1841, and was appointed Assistant Surgeon on 24 April 1841. Promoted to Surgeon in July 1855, he served with the 31st Bengal Native Infantry throughout the mutinies in the Saugor District in 1857-58. He became Surgeon Major in April 1861, Deputy Inspector General in January 1867, retired in December 1871, and died on 30 January 1882.
