Cabul 1842 (Lieut. W. A. Shaw, 10th Ben. L.C.) fitted with scroll suspension, this re-fixed, medal badly pitted from fire damage, therefore poor £100-150

William Alexander was born at Dublin on 18 May 1817. He joined the Bengal Cavalry in 1839 and served with the 10th Bengal Light Cavalry in Afghanistan in 1842. His father took the additional surname and arms of Shaw in May 1846, but William Alexander discontinued this additional surname by Royal License in June 1876. He retired from the Indian Army as a Major and died on 11 July 1895.
