Julius Caesar (46-45 BC), Denarius, Spain, bust of Venus left, on shoulder, Cupid, behind, sceptre and in front lituus, reverse two Gallic captives at foot of trophy; below, caesar (Cr 468/2; BMC Spain 86). Bankers mark in obverse field, bettter than vey fine (£90-120)

This coin and the previous lot refer to the Gallic Victories of Julius Caesar. The number LII (52) on the obverse of the first Denarius may refer to Caesar’s age in 47-48 BC, though why he should mark this anniversary is not clear
