Admiral Patrick John Blake commanded LARNE for five years and was actively employed during the campaign in China. He was officially mentioned by Sir Gordon Bremner (London Gazette 1841) for his able support of Captains Herbert and Scott in the attack, 7 January 1841, on the forts and batteries at Chuenpee. Blake was promoted Captain on 6 May 1841, and subsequently commanded JUNO (1845-49) on the Pacific station. Retired Admiral 1870.
