A Great War D.S.C. pair awarded to Skipper William Bruce, Royal Naval Reserve

Distinguished Service Cross, G.V.R., hallmarked 1916, in its case of issue; British War Medal (W.S.A. 1386 W. Bruce, Skr. R.N.R.) extremely fine (2) £600-700

D.S.C. London Gazette 14 July 1916: ‘For services in the Auxiliary Patrol during the period 1 January 1915 - 31 January 1916.’

Skipper William Bruce is shown as serving in H.M. Trawler
Bempton from 2 April 1915. He was drowned whilst serving in H.M. Trawler Bradford on 26 October 1916, when she foundered in a gale near the Old Head of Kinsale. He is commemorated by name on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
