Japanese Wakizashi, blade of shallow torji-zori, shobu-zokuri, toran-ha hamon. Details obscured, ubu nakago, one mekugi-ana, mumei 37cm. Probably Mino Den. Saya of brown and black lacquer imitating tree bark. Iron Higo Tsuba. Silver Omori style Fuchi-Kashira & Kojiri with breaking waves, gilt nanako Mino Goto Kodzuka with Kirin, dragon and puppy. Tsuka lacks same, Menuki and ito. The blade with an interesting presentation inscription ‘To Mr J. St A. Jewell (late Lieutenant R.N.V.R., H.M.S. Welford) from Captain H. Ichikawa and Supercargo T. Miura as a token of appreciation for services rendered at the loss of the S.S Toshu Maru by torpedo attack on the 29th January 1918’ £400-500
