Sea Gallantry Medal (Foreign Services), G.V.R., small silver medal, ‘For Gallantry and Humanity’ (G. Reed “Donald T”, 15th January 1921) edge bruising, otherwise nearly extremely fine £200-250

On the 15th January 1921, the schooner Donald T., of Luenberg, Nova Scotia, was abandoned in the North Atlantic Ocean. After two to four hours work the shipwrecked crew of six were safely transferred to S.S. Stonewall. Considerable risk was incurred owing to heavy seas, of the boat being smashed against the side and swamped. Seven silver Sea Gallantry Medals were awarded for this rescue. (Presented by the King on 8 July 1922).
