Afghanistan 1878-80, 1 clasp, Kandahar (314 Pte. J. Mattison, 59th Foot) nearly extremely fine and rare £180-200

Ex Dalrymple White Collection. One of only 13 Kandahar clasps issued to the 59th Foot.

John Mattison is shown as having been left at Kandahar, sick, when the Ghuzni Field Force left the city on 31 March 1880, under General Sir Donald Stewart. Mattison and a few others of the 59th were present in Kandahar during the defence of the citadel, 11th-31st August, and thus became entitled to the bar. He was not part of Lord Roberts’ column and is not entitled to the Kabul to Kandahar Star. Sold with verification.
