Waterloo 1815 (Surg. Geo. Redesdale, 1st Batt. 79th Reg. Foot) fitted with original steel clip and silver bar suspension, nearly extremely fine £2000-2500

George Ridsdale (variously spelt Redesdale, Ridesdale, or Reedsdell) was appointed Hospital Mate on 12 November 1805, and became Assistant Surgeon in the 68th Foot on 10 December 1807. He served in the Walcheren Expedition in 1809, and in the Peninsula from 1811 to 1814. He was appointed Surgeon to the 79th Regiment on 9 September 1813, and was present with them at the battles of Nive and Toulouse, and at the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo, where they suffered severely. Placed on Half Pay in March 1816, Ridsdale found employment once more as Surgeon to the 15th Dragoons in May 1817, and exchanged into the 47th Foot, serving in India, on 5 November 1818. He died at Bombay on 8 October 1820.
