Lewis John Dalgleish Butt was the son of Revd. Canon G.H. Butt MA and husband of Marian Ida Butt. He joined the Inns of Court O.T.C. in April 1915 and was commissioned in the 16th (Service) Battalion, Rifle Brigade, 21 October 1915. Landed in France with the battalion on 8 March 1916 and was Killed in Action on 4 July 1916 in a battalion scale raid on the Pope’s Nose position at Festubert. He is buried in La Touret Military Cemetery.
