M.M. London Gazette 24 January 1946. The recommendation states: ‘Sergeant MacGregor during the period under review has been a Troop Sergeant. He has always shown a complete disregard for safety and his powers of leadership have been outstanding. In particular on 27 March 1945, this NCO was leading his section in an attempt to secure a small bridge across the river Issel. The section came under heavy Spandau and small arms fire and just before reaching the bridge, Sergeant MacGregor’s Kangaroo was hit by a Bazooka and burst into flames. Sergeant MacGregor ‘baled out’ into a ditch full of Germans whom he shot. He then returned to his blazing vehicle to make sure that his driver and all the infantry had escaped. He then mounted the next Kangaroo and continued to direct the movements of his section until the completion of the operation. The following day, he and his driver in a fresh Kangaroo again went into action. This NCO’s example of courage and initiative had an excellent effect on the morale of his troop.’
