Francis Kay was born at Bolton, Lancashire, and attested for the 6th Foot at Chelmsford on 25 April 1805. He served in the Peninsula in 1808-09, in Captain Curry’s company, and was discharged at Bombay in December 1827, being finally discharged at Horse Guards on 24 June 1829, suffering near blindness from Opthalmia.
