Joseph Storer was born in 1850, and served with the 2nd Warwick Militia before enlisting for the 8th Regiment at Birmingham on 24 December 1868. During his subsequent service he was stationed at Ashton, Manchester, Preston, Fleetwood, Carlisle, and in Ireland. Obviously an athletic man, he is frequently shown on the musters as a gym instructor, and in 1872 he won a good shooting prize. He went to India with the 2nd Battalion in September 1877, and served throughout the first campaign, including the action at Peiwar Kotal. He was discharged on 31 May 1881 and returned home to Birmingham. He died at Starsbrook in December 1931, aged 81.
