Isaac McKew was a weaver from Hamilton before he enlisted for the 14th Regiment on 27 December 1876. He transferred to the 94th Foot on 1 April 1878, was promoted to Lance-Corporal on 1st August but reduced again to Private on 15 May 1879. He served with the 94th Foot during the Zulu War of 1879 and in the Transvaal in 1880, and was killed in action at Bronkhorst Spruit on 20 December 1880.
