Henry Robinson Wadmore was born in London on 1 April 1857, son of Rev. Henry Robinson Wadmore. He served with the Natal Native Contingent during the Zulu War of 1879, and appears to have remained in South Africa after the campaign, being later employed in the Customs Office at Cape Town and in the Traffic Branch of the Railway Department. He died in London on 30 December 1904.
