James Watson enlisted at Edinburgh on 6 November 1850, aged 18 years 6 months. He was killed in the Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava on 25 October 1854, in which the 13th Light Dragoons had three officers and 11 men killed, and another 30 men wounded. Eight men were awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.
