Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (T. Alderson, 1st Rl. Dragoons) officially impressed naming; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (789 Thos. Alderson, 1st Dragoons); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, unnamed, the first with heavy contact marks and repaired suspension at the claw, therefore fine, otherwise nearly very fine (3) £1000-1200

Thomas Turnbull Alderson was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1820, and enlisted into the 1st Dragoons at Newcastle on 26 February 1842, aged 22. He served in Turkey and the Crimea for two years, and when discharged on 12 May 1866, was in ‘possession of Five Good Conduct Badges, of the Crimean Medal & 3 clasps, & Turkish Medal, & Silver Medal with a Gratuity of £5 for long service and good conduct.’

The Royal Dragoons had two men killed and eleven wounded in the Charge of the Heavy Brigade at Balaklava on 25 October 1854. Eight men were awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.
